What a difference a few years makes—the automotive sector is changing, and it’s changing fast. Artificial intelligence is poised to become a base technology for every engineering department. Consumers talk more about systems and technologies embedded in cars than about horsepower.
The vehicle will become the ultimate connected digital device. It becomes part of a new customer mobility experience in-vehicle and outside the vehicle — addressing the full customer journey. Capabilities include intermodal guidance, payment and ticketing, and, because drivers can increasingly take hands off the steering wheel, digital entertainment and work-related services for more efficient use of travel time. As the vehicle turns “digital,” customers expect the digital experience of vehicles to reflect their personal digital lifestyle.
Autonomous driving technology will fundamentally transform the automotive industry, changing the way vehicles are built, operated, sold, used and serviced. Dozens of companies are already working on the sensors and other technologies required to enable these vehicles to know where they are and what is around them. Dozens of companies are now building artificial intelligence (AI)-based software to make autonomous vehicles smart enough to communicate with their passengers, other vehicles and the cloud, while planning the best path for a safe, fast and entertaining journey.
To complement our discussion after Martin’s presentation, Andreas Bradt from Allianz Automotive will join us to briefly outline the insurance factors related to advancing from today’s automotive world to one where connected and autonomous driving predominates. Insurance is among the key issues for the transition.
